Meditation Kicks Ass

sit. stay. heal.
Day One Hundred and Ninety
BookPeople, ATX
I know that mostly I
revisit the same
handful of topics
again and again
but you know
in some ways
that’s sort of what
life often seems to
be about
a handful of topics
that we wrap in
different packages
Garreth was pointing out to me
that when one plays
XBox
technically one is just
moving a little thingy around
to prompt certain other
thingies to happen
on the screen
but when you wrap all this up
in a package
called a
STORY
and put in
CHARACTERS
and
GUNS
and
INTRIGUE
well then people are going to want to
pay a lot of money
to buy the thing
to let you move the little thingy
that makes other thingies happen
and so it is
in our minds
We could look at
a situation
and say
ah yes
file that under
Someone Said Thing A
And So
I Feel Thing B
And It Will Pass
So No Need to
Make a Mountain
Out of a Molehill
but instead
so often
we blow it up
inflate it
embellish it
share details with others
grow it
build a story around it
speculate
(For example:
Does he like me, like me?
Let’s revisit his last two word
text message
and
create a
Russian novel
around it!!)
I have spent a lot of time
this year
trying to really
truly train my mind
through
MEDITATION
to recognize
when I am
creating a story
not so much
so that I might
eradicate the story
or
stop creating stories
altogether
because let’s face it
creating stories can be
fun and exciting
but I do try to
keep the stories
to myself
or at least
keep a lot of them
to myself
or
if I can’t do that
then to be sure to share them
with people who can
help me
dismantle them
and
see reality
so that I can
enjoy the story
but not get
too carried away
you know
stay on
The Middle Path
so enjoy all the stories
you make up
but also
please try to remember
that
often stories
are just stories
Today I
Breathe In
and I
Breathe Out
and I am
thankful for my
Imagination
but I am also thankful
for knowing that
my imagination
can get me into
unnecessary
trouble in the
anxiety department
Thank you
